DON'T MOVE TO NORWAY! 11 REASONS Why You Should NEVER Move to and Live in Norway

24.10.2021

You should never ever move to Norway. I have at least 11 reasons why you should think twice before you decide to live in Norway. ⏱⏱⏱ TIME CODES: 00:00 Welcome to Deserted Norway on Sunday - every Sunday in Norway is like this 01:22 1️⃣ Learning Norwegian Language 02:35 2️⃣ Climate in Norway 04:50 3️⃣ Weather in Norway changes all the time 05:31 4️⃣ Outdoor Activities in Norway 06:35 5️⃣ You will have to WORK HARD 07:50 6️⃣ Norwegian food & Norwegian Ingredients 08:45 7️⃣ Norway is NOT a PARTY CULTURE 10:23 8️⃣ Smoking & Drinking in Norway 11:38 9️⃣ Missing your friends & family 12:20 🔟 Never complain in Norway (to the strangers on the bus) 13:17 1️⃣1️⃣ You will never become 100% Norwegian 📍 1 - Learning new language - Norwegian is a rare language. If you think about it, the population of Norway is 5 million 747 thousand people. And those people speak 3 official language of Norway: Nynorsk Bolmål And Sami So if you are not willing to study Norwegian and start learning it well in advance - you better don’t move to Norway. 📍 2 - Adjusting to the new climate I’m getting this question a lot - how can you handle winter in Norway? My usual answer is - I can handle it with no issues and with a great pleasure! 📍 3 - You are weather dependant Like you can’t work or you can’t create when the sun doesn’t shine. That’s different. And you’ll have to change your attitude I’m afraid. As the weather in Norway might change 10 times a day - especially autumn and spring time. And it’s gona be much shorter days winter time. 📍4 - You don’t like outdoor activities. In Norway people spend their time outdoors all year around. Summer is ideal for hiking, winter is perfect for skiing and snowboarding. The house is just a hub to pack your lunch and discuss your future outdoor adventures. 📍5 - You will have to work hard. Much harder than you worked in your country of origin. If in your own country you are native, in any new country you will be a guest for a long time. And you will need to invest into society first to be accepted there and win your own place there 📍 6 - You will miss your local food and ingredients In Norway you will have to learn how to cook from local ingredients. Norwegian ingredients are not bad at all! Check local supermarkets in Norway and find exactly what you like 📍 7 - You will not party as you used to in Norway I repeat it’s not a party culture! Party in Norway is happening different way - every Saturday or Sunday if you go hiking you’ll meet a lot of people doing the same. That’s where Norwegian party and social life happening - outdoors! Also we are having dinners with friends here. But that dinner will be with much less alcohol compare to some other European countries and most probably by 10pm everyone will go back home. 📍8 - You are smoking It’s bad anywhere in the world but in Norway it’s also insanely expensive. Let’s have a look at maths: 1 pack of Marlboro red is NOK = US Dollars If you smoke even a half pack a day, 1 year of smoking in Norway will cost you about €2 555 📍9 - You will miss your family and friends That’s 100% and you cannot do much about it. But remember, this is your choice to change the country so you are the only to be responsible for your decision. Advice here: regular visits - both sides combined with modern technology- face time, teams. I know it’s not the same but it’s a part of the process and you have to be prepared for it. 📍10 - If you like complaining to strangers- especially on the bus, if you like judging people and always know best how they should behave and what they should wear, if you can’t deal with your curiosity and keep asking everyone around why they don’t have kids yet or when they are planning to get married and it seems it too late anyway - you better don’t come to Norway. 📍 11 - You will never be Norwegian. Let me put it this way: you will never adjust yourself 100%. You’ll always have an accent - if you are moving the countries at the age of 20 and above - 99% you’ll have an accent. It’s not your nationality what makes you special, it’s your own actions. 📸 My Filming Gear: SONY ZV1 - BEST Vlogging Camera - 🤍 SONY GRIP TRIPOD - 🤍 RØDE Vlogging Mic - 🤍 GoPro HERO 9 🤍 GoPro Remote Control 🤍 GoPro Selfie Stick with Tripod Stand 🤍 AFFILIATE DISCLOSURE: This video and description may contain affiliate links, which means that if you click on one of the product links, I’ll receive a small commission. 10 Reasons Not to Move to Norway

20.03.2023

What are some reasons why you shouldn't move to Norway? Hey Everyone! Welcome to my channel today I'm talking about 10 Reasons NOT to move to Norway. Known for breath-taking fjords, polar nights, and majestic mountains, many people consider Norway the perfect place to live - but it's not for everyone! In this video, I'll be taking a look at the downsides of moving there – from costs of living and long winters, all the way through to language barriers and culture shock. So stay tuned if you want to find out what’s waiting for you in Norway, if it’s really worth making the leap. 10. No Amazon If you're an online shopping enthusiast, then it might not be the ideal place to move. That's right folks - no Amazon! Yes, I know what you're thinking: how can one of the most advanced countries in the world not have access to the convenience of Amazon? Well, unfortunately for Norwegian shoppers (and anyone else considering moving there) that is just a reality now as Amazon does not operate within Norway’s borders. So why isn't Amazon available in Norway? The answer lies mainly with taxes – Norwegian customs regulations require that customers pay a 25 percent tax on all items purchased from non-Norwegian companies such as Amazon. On top of this, any item sent to Norway must also include 17.5% value-added tax (VAT). If you are habituated to ordering from the largest e-commerce store, then this might be one of the reasons not to move to Norway. 9. You can’t party much If you're looking for a place to move that offers plenty of partying and nightlife, then Norway might not be your best bet. You see, the country has some pretty strict laws when it comes to alcohol consumption and public gatherings. Plus, if you want to buy anything stronger than beer or wine, good luck – Norway isn't exactly known for its abundance of booze shops! So, if you plan on having wild nights filled with laughter and fun – this Nordic nation probably won't be your ideal destination. If you are a party freak, then this is certainly one of the negative sides of living in Norway. 8. Adjusting to cultural differences can be difficult If you’ve ever lived in Norway, you know that it can be hard to adjust. From the lack of sun during the winter months to an appreciation for hygge and fika - two things that are essential parts of Norwegian life - it can feel like moving from one world into another. What makes adjusting especially difficult is that Norwegian culture values individualism over all else. People tend to keep themselves more private than other cultures around the world, so don't expect many invitations or warm welcomes when arriving in town. And even though Norwegians won't necessarily come out and say they're uncomfortable with your presence, they will definitely show displeasure if what you do affects others negatively. If you are a social butterfly, then this could be one of the most important reasons not to move to Norway. 7. Property is expensive According to a recent report from Global Property Guide, it was found that the average cost for purchasing a house or apartment in Oslo (the capital) was around US$2,997 per square meter in 2020. That’s almost double what many other countries charge for similar properties! And if you think that number is bad enough wait until you hear about how much rentals are going for in Norway, they can be as high as US$1000 per month just for a small studio flat! I know you all have heard that Norway is a wealthy country and the salaries in Norway are quite high. But what about basic, every day things like grocery shopping here in Norway? How much will you spend on buying food in the local Norwegian supermarket? Let me show you: Norwegian supermarket Kiwi 🤍 Norwegian supermarket Coop 🤍 There are several chains of supermarkets in Norway ⁃ Meny ⁃ Coop ⁃ Rema 100 ⁃ Kiwi There is also Spar and maybe some others but I was living here for 2 years and … well Spar is quite far from the town center and 4 of them were always enough to do my grocery shopping. During 2 years of my life in Norway my basic grocery shopping needs were satisfied by Kiwi — there you can get all basic stuff you need. However, when I fancy something more special, more interesting- I’m paying a visit to Local Norwegian Coop. How typical grocery shopping in Norway looks like? What Norwegians eat? What Norwegians usually buy in the supermarket? How local Norwegian food looks like? What can you get in Norwegian supermarket for $100? Is Norway expensive? Is Norway rich? The city is located on the river Numedalslågen at the entrance to the valley of Numedal. Kongsberg has been a centre of silver mining, arms production and forestry for centuries, and is the site of high technology industry including the headquarters of Norway's largest defence contractor Kongsberg Gruppen. Kongsberg, formerly spelled Konningsberg - "King's Mountain", was developed as a mining city on the basis of the Kongsberg Silver Mines, founded by and named after King Christian IV of Denmark and Norway in 1624. The king invited German engineers and other specialists from Saxony and the Harz region to help build the mining company. As a mining city, Kongsberg had a distinct urban culture that contrasted with its surroundings, strongly influenced by the traditions of mining communities in Germany and where the German language was extensively used in mining business and for religious services. In the first years nearly half of the city's population were German immigrants, and the majority of the engineers and executives were German immigrants and their descendants well into the 19th century, becoming a distinct social class called mining families that formed the educated social elite of Kongsberg in contrast to the Norwegian farming population; the first Nobel laureate in economics Ragnar Frisch belonged to such a Kongsberg mining family. By the 18th century Kongsberg was Norway's second largest city, second only to Bergen. Kongsberg was one of Norway's two privileged mining cities and thus formed a special mining jurisdiction (Norwegian: Bergstad), and only became part of Buskerud county in 1760. On 1 January 1838, the new national law, creating local governments, made Kongsberg a municipality. The rural municipalities of Ytre Sandsvær and Øvre Sandsvær were merged into the municipality of Kongsberg in 1964. Kongsberg gradually lost importance to other cities in the 19th century, particularly to the rapidly growing capital of Christiania (Oslo). The Kongsberg Silver Mines closed in 1958 after operating for 334 years and is today a museum and the city's main tourist attraction. Kongsberg remains the site of the Royal Norwegian Mint (Norwegian: Det Norske Myntverket), which mints Norwegian coins and also produces circulating and collectors' coins for other countries. Kongsberg is also the home of Norway's major defence contractor, Kongsberg Gruppen, founded in 1814. Both the University of South-Eastern Norway Kongsberg campus, and Tinius Olsen's school, a combined technical vocational college and secondary school, are located in Kongsberg. It's called Bærum Verk and has a population of about 8000. The markets here are very ethnic and sell made in Norway stuff. A beautiful river Lomma also flows by and gives a very serene environment to the whole place. The buildings straddle the river, with several pedestrian bridges connecting them. Living in a Land Rover in Norway - 10 days in the highlands

🤍 Instagram: 🤍kasper.hoglund I'm a full time photographer living in a 2014 Land Rover Discovery 4. I have lived across the county to learn photography. I've decided to start making videos like this as well, to have a different format to show you more of my life. I got rid of my apartment several years ago. And lived the first 20 months full time in the car. I then moved back south to overhaul the 250 000 km LR. Whilst doing so I rented a small garage together with some friends. During this period I slept in the garage and in the back of a dorky looking Peugeot just to make ends meet. I've gone back to living full time in the car since late winter last year. When I'm in the city, working as a photographer I mostly use this car as a bed. I'm either working, fixing the car or spending my time doing something else. It is definitely not a "practical" car to live in. But would see myself living in a boring van either. The reason I spend so much time at work during these days down town, is to be able to do what I built this car for. Escaping into the Norwegian scenery to both capture and enjoy it all! We're going to move north! 😍 We found a very sweet farm, which we are allowed to rent from the beginning of November. The farm is very old and without running water, so I’m sure the first winter will be an adventure. But I feel ready for an adventure and I’m sooo looking forward to explore the nature around there! And to finally allow myself to settle somewhere. It couldn't feel more right. We will follow the call of the north. ❤️ ➳ HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT US: Our Art Shop: 🤍 Patreon: 🤍 Paypal donation: 🤍 ➳ FIND US HERE: leena's instagram: 🤍 joachim's instagram: 🤍 art of nature instagram: 🤍 my website: 🤍leena-henningsen.de ➳ MUSIC (from musicbed.com) Lum (with Lane King) - Chris Coleman I am too Weak - Davis Harwell Allude - Madron Arpege - Tony Anderson Hallelujah - Dafna

The Human Development Index measures each country's social and economic development by focusing on the following four factors: the average years of schooling, expected years of schooling, life expectancy at birth, and gross national income per capita. This then gives each country a score, the closer to 1 you are, the better the living standards generally are in your country. So at 0.957, Norway is the highest ranking country on Earth for the Human Development Index, but what exactly does this mean and just how great of a place is Norway to live? #geography #norway #nordic 30 Geography facts most people get wrong: 🤍 50 Fun and interesting geography facts: 🤍 🔥Subscribe! PROS and CONS of LIVING IN NORWAY. Is Norwegian life good or bad?

Let’s talk about ADVANTAGES and DISADVANTAGES of living in Norway! Norwegian life might look idilic but how is Life in Norway in reality? ⏱⏱⏱ TIME CODES 00:00 — WELCOME TO NORWAY 🇳🇴 00:29 — 1️⃣ PROS - NORWEGIAN NATURE 01:58 — 2️⃣ PROS - QUALITY of Life in Norway 03:11 — 3️⃣ PROS - SAFETY in Norway 04:28 — 4️⃣ PROS - Principles of Equality in Norway 05:36 — 5️⃣ PROS - Salary in Norway 06:33 — 1️⃣ CONS - Cost of Living in Norway 08:02 — 2️⃣ CONS - Speed Limits in Norway 09:26 — 3️⃣ CONS - NO Flip Flops on Norwegian beaches 10:32 — 4️⃣ CONS - Alcohol and Tobacco in Norway 11:13 — 5️⃣ CONS — NO AMAZON in NORWAY What is good about life in Norway? 1️⃣ PROS: Nature in Norway — Lots of fresh air and countryside around Norwegian nature: Norway is so green and fresh and accessible for both hiking in summer in Norway and winter sports in winter in Norway. Norwegian fjords are unique and there is always something new to explore in Norway. Even if you live in the city in Norway, like Oslo or Bergen or Stavanger - nature in Norway is always within touching distance. 2️⃣ PROS: The standard of living in Norway is unbeatable The quality of life offered to Norwegian citizens and residents of Norway is impressive by nearly every measure. In 2019, the annual World Happiness Report ranked Norway at a solid number 3, bringing home high marks in categories like income, freedom, trust in government, social support, generosity, and more in Norway. Life expectancy for people living in Norway is a whopping 81 years. 3️⃣ PROS: Is Norway a Safe Country? Norway is one of the safest countries in the world. In 2018 Norwegian nation of over 5 million only saw 25 murders total. Norway is safe and great to travel and live. 4️⃣ PROS: Equality in Norway: - females in politics in Norway - attitude at work in Norway - maternity and paternity leave in Norway Norwegian workplaces also support equality between the genders. As parents in Norway you get one year of parental leave to split between you, ten extra sick days every year in case your child is ill. 5️⃣ PROS: Salaries in Norway are very good One of the biggest surprises for people emigrating to Norway is that the pay here is much higher than in most other countries in Europe. Norway enjoys one of the lowest differentials between worker and boss pay, and there is a cultural leveling in the workplace which values the opinions of everyone, not just the executives on the top floor. ✅ Norway is one of the happiest countries in the world The 2020 World Happiness Report, released on March 20, 2020, ranks 156 countries based on an average of three years of surveys between 2017 and 2019. The 2020 report especially focuses on the environment – social, urban, and natural, and includes links between happiness and sustainable development. What is BAD about life in Norway? 1️⃣ CONS: High Cost of Living in Norway One of the biggest downsides of living in Norway, especially for new arrivals. The price of groceries is much higher in Norway than virtually every other country. Eating out is not something you do in Norway more than once per week. Also the grocery shopping in Norway is 30% more expensive compare to England. 2️⃣ CONS - Speed limits in Norway The National speed limit in Norway is 80km per hour - in England national speed limit on the motorway is 70 miles which is about 112km per hour. To ensure Norwegian drivers stick to these limits, speeding fines are based on a percentage of your income. Norway is the country with the World’s Safest Roads. Is it safe to drive in Norway? How to drive in Norway? Driving in Norway. 3️⃣ YOU CAN’T GO TO THE BEACH IN NORWAY WEARING FLIP FLOPS AND SHORTS Norway has a huge number of beautiful, Caribbean looking like Norwegian beaches. You can see the same crystal white sand and transparent blue waters in Norway. Norwegian outdoor activities. Surfing in Norway. Where can I do windsurfing in Norway? Lofoten Islands. Caribbean beaches in Arctic Circle. 3️⃣ CONS: OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES IN NORWAY- if you a fan of outdoor activities- you are in trouble in Norway. People in Norway spend their time outdoor all year around — summer means hiking , winter means skiing, or cross country skiing, or at least snowboarding. Norwegians love winter sports and outdoor activities. 4️⃣ CONS: Alcohol in Norway Alcohol in Norway you can buy in only 1 shop which is called Vinmonopolet. How expensive alcohol in Norway is? Is alcohol expensive in Norway? Why alcohol is so expensive in Norway? Where can I buy alcohol in Norway? 5️⃣ CONS: No Amazon in Norway This is possibly my biggest frustration about living in Norway. The post in Norway is incredibly slow. There is no Amazon in Norway. 〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️ 🆓 DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTION ABOUT TRAVEL TO NORWAY, living in Norway or travel in general? Send me a message, I’ll be happy to help 🤗 #norway #livinginnorway #norwaytravel

I want every company entering Norwegian market with their subsidiaries here to watch this video. It will help a lot with your deadlines if your employees are ready to become a part of local Norwegian society and know some basic rules of working and living here. ⏱⏱⏱ TIME CODES 00:00 - Are you READY to become a part of local Norwegian society? 00:13 - Some basic RULES of working and living in Norway 00:20 - How is WORK / LIFE in Norway? 01:08 - Does Norway have a DRESS CODE? What should I WEAR to WORK in Norway? 01:39 - How is the WORK CULTURE in Norway? 02:31 - Are Norwegians PUNCTUAL? 03:05 - Is there EQUALITY in Norway? 03:56 - How expensive are GROCERIES in Norway? 04:22 - Are supermarkets EXPENSIVE in Norway? 06:30 - Is Norway a good place to live with KIDS? 07:29 - Driving in Norway: Speed Limits in Norway, Speed Tickets in Norway. 08:45 - Why ALCOHOL is expensive in Norway? 10:26 - Norwegian CAKE DAY in the office every Friday! 11:28 - FREE Norwegian language classes ✅ My Travel Channel: 🤍 ✅ 1 - LIFE / WORK BALANCE . You can’t expect your employees to stay in the office until late when all their Norwegian colleagues have been gone to spend time with their families. Advice: adopt Norwegian office working culture: Start earlier, everyone is in the office here by 8am.From 8am to 4pm concentrate on work! Put your personal phone away, forget about any distraction, just focus on work. ✅ 2 - Dress code in the office. There’s no such a thing as a business dress code in Norway. Keep it simple. And comfortable. A pair of jeans, comfortable shoes like timberland or similar stuff, polo shirt and jumper - that’s everything you need. ✅ 3 - There’s no hierarchy in Norway. You will not feel it. The manager here is the same accessible as any other employee. It’s absolutely fine to grab a coffee or have lunch together from time to time. That’s not a big deal. ✅ 4 - Punctuality! Is the king in Norway! ✅ 5 - Principle of equality ✅ 6 - Prices in the supermarkets - your salary cannot be the same as in your own country! Cost of life in much higher in Norway. ✅ 7 - Norway is a paradise for the kids ✅ 8 - Driving in Norway - speeding tickets. Get ready to follow speed limits and also keep enough distance between the cars. Just a few major rules you must follow when you drive in Norway: 1 - speed limits 30km per/h in residential area - and you better go below it! 2 - 50 km/h in urban areas 3 - 70km/h and above on rural roads and motorways. Always check the road signs to make sure you are not exceeding your speed limit. Speeding tickets in Norway will damage your bank account quite a lot and will be covered by the company. Same as parking - which you can pay for with an app. Never drink alcohol when you drive in Norway. For example, in Norway an individual with a BLOOD ALCOHOL CONTENT at or over 0.2% is already over the limit. Remember this one - in Norway EVERY offender - drunk driver - goes to jail for a minimum of 3 weeks. ✅ 9 - Alcohol in Norway 🤍 ✅ 10 - Cake day in the office every Friday. That’s a great tradition here! ✅11 - As an expat you will be offered free Norwegian language classes here. This is so cool! Especially if you are planning to spend 2-3 years in Norway speaking the local language will be beneficial. Just ask your company if they have this option and enjoy your free opportunity to learn a new language! ❓Would you like to be an expat in Norway? Feel free to let me know in the comments down below.
