The Boeing–Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche was an advanced five-blade armed reconnaissance and attack helicopter designed for the United States Army. The RAH-66 program was canceled in 2004, before mass production began, after nearly US$7 billion was spent on the program. During the early 1980s, the U.S. Army began formulating a requirement for the replacement of its helicopters then in service, resulting in the Light Helicopter Experimental program. In 1991, the Boeing-Sikorsky team was chosen to produce prototypes. The Comanche would incorporate stealth technologies, featuring a number of designs previously untried. It was to employ advanced sensors in its reconnaissance role, and was intended to designate targets for the AH-64 Apache. The aircraft was also armed with missiles and rockets to destroy armored vehicles. Two RAH-66 prototypes were built and conducted flight testing from 1996 to 2004. Since the cancellation the prototypes have been placed on display.

Le développement du Comanche va prendre du temps à cause de problèmes techniques et de modification du cahier des charges pour les militaires. Le programme va donc prendre trop de temps et coûtait presque 7 milliards de dollars. Il sera suspendu en le 23 février 2004 car l'hélicoptère est jugé désormais inutile car il avait été conçu pour une guerre qui n'existait et la priorité était donnée au développement de drones. Boeing-Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche Why Did it Flop? On 23 February 2004, the U.S. Army announced that they had decided to terminate all work on the Comanche program. At the time, it was stated that the Army had determined that a number of upgrades would be necessary in order for the RAH-66 to be capable of surviving on the battlefield in the face of current anti-aircraft threats; however, the Army had instead decided to re-direct the bulk of its funding for rotary development toward the renovation of its existing helicopter fleet of attack, utility, and reconnaissance aircraft. Specifically, the Army also had plans to reuse the funds allocated to the Comanche program to speed up development of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which could also perform the scouting role intended for the vehicle.[15][16] At the time of its termination, the Comanche program had reportedly spent US$6.9 billion.[17] The contract termination fees involved were estimated to total US$450–680 million for the main program partners Sikorsky and Boeing.[16][18]

It started with the F-22 series and eventually expanded to Delta Force, Tachyon, Mig-29, F-16 Multirole Fighter, and the Comanche series. As far as the Comanche series goes, Comanche Gold was easily the best of them all. Comanche Gold is basically Comanche 3 with an updated engine, additional missions, and better multiplayer. Comanche 3 was already a solid game, and Novalogic managed to do even better. Although it has a slightly arcade feeling, there is enough simulation to make it feel authentic. I prefer this game over Comanche 4, as Comanche 4 felt more like an arcade shooter than this one. This game was where the series was at its best. In my collection of old games, Novalogic was the most popular aside from Jane's. However, the company sadly declined and stopped producing games regularly after 2000. The Comanche helicopter, discontinued by the US Army in 2004, was the template for this very popular action flight simulation series. The first part from 1992 was the first game ever to offer voxel graphics and was considered spectacular. The series continued until 2001, but then the developer Novalogic went bankrupt.
