UK is Building The New Submarine that is Totally Different than any Other Subs

Today’s nuclear submarines are engineering marvels, but what the UK has come up with is next level. For years, the British Royal Navy has been working on its next-generation of nuclear subs: The Dreadnought Class. Sounds scary and fierce? That’s because it is. As long as three olympic swimming pools stacked end to end, the Dreadnought is slated to be the biggest, stealthiest, and most efficient submarine the country has ever produced—comparable only to America’s Columbia class and the French SNLE-3 submarine set to enter service in the 2030s. But that’s not all. The Dreadnought carries 12 Trident D-5 nuclear missiles—each capable of destroying a major city. Its X-form rudder system, double-hull design, quieter turbo electric drive, streamlined sail bow planes, and lower acoustic signature make the Dreadnought one of the best—and least detectable—nuclear deterrents in its class. The Royal Navy has plans to build four of these 17,200 ton behemoths by the 2030s. Will British Dreadnoughts once more rule the waves for generations to come? Let us know in the comments. #themilitaryshow

The UK’s Royal Navy has ordered a probe after workers on a Trident nuclear-armed submarine, HMS Vanguard, risked a disaster. As per reports, the workers repaired broken bolts in the vessel’s reactor chamber using glue. The glued bolts held insulation in place on the coolant pipes, which prevented a meltdown in the nuclear reactor. The first of a new six part series for Carlton/Meridian, "Submarine" follows a year in the life of HMS Superb as she comes out of a three and a half year £200 million re-fit and back into active service. The Submarine Service has always attracted a special type of sailor. Dismissed even by the Admiralty in 1902 as "underhand, unfair and damned un-English". Without a doubt it takes a particular type of person to be a submariner and a particular type of person to be a submariners wife. Away from home for months at a time and with no way of keeping in touch with home it's a way of life that most of us would find untenable. HMS Anson – dubbed the "most advanced submarine ever built by BAE Systems" – has been officially commissioned into the Royal Navy during a ceremony in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. The nuclear-powered submarine is 97m long with a displacement of 7,800 tonnes and is the fifth of seven in the Astute class. The submarine was commissioned at BAE Systems’ yard in Cumbria in front of her crew and their families, plus naval leaders, Secretary of State for Defence Ben Wallace, Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles, and the boat’s sponsor, Julie Weale. Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said: "Built in a UK shipyard, HMS Anson demonstrates the very best of British industry, sustaining our world-leading sub-surface capabilities and underlining the UK's readiness to contribute them to shared security, especially with our closest allies Australia and the United States under the AUKUS initiative." The Vanguard-class submarines are the largest submarines ever built in the United Kingdom, measuring about 150 meters in length and weighing more than 16,000 tons. The submarines have twice the displacement of the Resolution-class Polaris submarines. Because of the size of the boats, a special production facility was established to handle the Vanguard and her sister submarines' construction. Even though the subs’ size was enlarged to accommodate the Trident D5 missile, yet the complement of the class is small at just 132 officers and sailors, compared to the Polaris boats, which had a crew of 149. The 16-tube missile compartment on the new Trident submarines is based on the 24-tube system utilized on the United States Navy’s Ohio-class Trident submarines. The United States is in charge of missile maintenance, while the UK Atomic Weapons Establishment at Aldermaston was in charge of all design, manufacturing, and installation, as well as warhead maintenance.

Titles read: "BRITISH SUBMARINE SUCCESSES IN THE MEDITERRANEAN". Somewhere in the Mediterranean. A British submarine returns from a patrol for a refit. It comes alongside its depot ship and the Commander goes aboard to hand in his reports. The submarine crew disembark and we see brief shots of them having showers and relaxing with a cup of tea on the depot ship. Meanwhile, in the workshops we see men making repairs on the sub and fresh torpedoes being lowered in. The next trip is worked out by the Staff Officer of Operations and the Commander and the sub leaves port. Activity in the submarine as it prepares to make a test dive. The submarine starts to submerge and the air escaping sends spray high into the air. Raising and lowering the periscope. The sub comes back to the surface and starts to fire her guns. She launches a torpedo while on the surface. C/U of a tape machine, tapping out details of British submarine successes. Quick shot of skull and crossbones flag flying. Then we see prisoners from the U-93 German boat come ashore at a port and climb into the back of a truck. A white Ensign flag now flies below the skull and crossbones flag. Cataloguer's note: not sure of significance of skull and crossbones - did the Germans fly it on their U-boats or did Allies put is there to show "this is the Hun"? The lead boat, HMS Dreadnought, was laid down in 2016 and is currently being constructed. It should be commissioned with the Royal Navy in 2028. It is planned that a total of 4 Dreadnought class boats will be built to replace the Vanguard class on a 1-on-1 basis. These will be the largest submarines ever built for the Royal Navy, larger than the current Vanguard class boats. The main role of these boomers is to patrol undetected in the World's oceans with their deadly nuclear-tipped missiles. This is intended to deter a potential enemy from attacking Britain. Since the retirement of the last Royal Air Force nuclear bomb in 1998, the British nuclear weapons are wholly submarine-based. The Dreadnought class boats will use US Trident II. However the new bots will have only 12 tubes for ballistic missiles, while the Vanguard class boats can carry 16 of them. These boats will have four 533 mm torpedo tubes for Spearfish heavyweight medium-range torpedoes. #usnavy #Submarine #Nuclearweapons #Ships #War #Missile #Science #Education #Math #US Navy #nuclearsubmarine #aircraftcarrier #navy #russia #submarines #nuclear #military #typhoon-classsubmarine

There are several different clips in this episode. Please follow the links to watch the entire episodes as they really give a good look at the overall shape of these impressive submarines. Ralph Astley 🤍 clydefilm 🤍 TrevBoston 🤍 jstevo 🤍 All 7 boats underwent construction at Barrow in Furness shipyard. The Trafalgar class were successors to the Swiftsure class SSN and in appearance are almost identical. However, the Trafalgar SSNs are considerably more capable. The name of the class refers to the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 where the Royal Navy defeated the French and Spanish at Trafalgar off the Spanish coast. Today the newer and more advanced Astute class submarines are replacing the Trafalgar class. The last boat of the class is expected to retire by 2025. The class has a displacement of 5200 tones (dived), Length 85.4m, Beam 9.8m and a top speed in excess of 30 knots (dived)."
