I can't believe it!
Vous dîtes?
I know the Birdcage wouldnt have happened without the original, but the Birdcage is superior in every way.
No comparison.
The French one has so much more depth and the acting is much finer.
The American one is just cliché shouting for dummies.
I saw the original French version first; BRILLIANT!!! The remake is equally entertaining; the chemistry between Robin and Nathan is delightful.
Nathan Lane is absolutely hilarious, in this and especially in the Producers
The Birdcage stinks - It's a shticky shmaltzy classless imitation of a masterpiece end of story.
I'm French and i love both for different reasons.
What a wonderful juxtaposition.
Watched this as a little kid on late night TV. 😅

Both are great but for me the remake is hilarious- Nathan Lane and Hank Azaria steal the show and of course Mike Nichols direction is brilliant.
The Birdcage is a masterpiece.
I think part of the problem with the comparison is that these two movies are almost 20 years apart. I think it also shows the difference between French and American comedies. I like the Birdcage a little more because its more literal.
One example is the toast scene. Both convey the same info, but the Birdcage has them repeat the line "I PIERCED THE TOAST!" which sounds a bit funnier than "broken the toast"
Great acting both love its.
Both are absolutely exquisite...."I made you short?".....
You can't beat the original! Michel Serrault's performance can never be equaled, he is the true Zaza Napoli! The remake over does it, Hollywood cheapens it, like they always do!
Had no idea there was an original..both are hilarious!
