There exists a variety of styles of bolted anchors, and where we clip and ways we utilize these anchors can make or break our fun and efficiency. This video will give you a sense of how to best attach ourselves to these anchors. Half/Twin ropes make long, technical descents easier on many routes by allowing you to make full, 60M rappels and carry little extra weight while still giving you real ropes as options. Keeping them neat at a transition, however can be challenging. This method for preparing your rappel when the leader arrives to the anchor can help mitigate some frustrations and speed up the process. The Camp Ovo (also sold from Kong as the GiGi) is an excellent device for belaying two followers due the wide openings being optimal for 2, single rated ropes. But can you rappel with it? If so, how? Swapping leads on a multi-pitch route can be speedy if you take into account certain truths... 1)your partner is already on belay in the device. There is no reason to remove their rope once they are attached to the anchor. Simply move it to your belay loop, only after they have cloved into the anchor. 2) They are already on top of the pile, so no need to flip, & 3) They should have most of the rack organized on their harness from the previous pitch. *Remember to always double check your system before unlocking any critical links!!!
One from the vault. Building anchors in broken terrain can be challenging if all you have are large detached boulders or trees. Using the rope can allow us a quick, efficient method for tethering ourselves and giving us a master point to belay.
Wet or icy ropes can be difficult to manage and long periods of belaying a top-rope with one can be fatiguing. Assuming our climbers have the ability to unweight the rope, this method is a great tool to add some security to our climber when conditions are more distracting.
Many companies coil their ropes in loops with a machine. This process requires that the rope be uncoiled in the opposite direction that the factory coils were made, lest the new owner be burdened with frustrating pigtails for much of their rope's lifespan. This technique can help to make that process painless and quick!
Rappelling with two ropes means tying them together with a knot. That knot will not pull through the rings or chains. This means that when pulling (especially with rope drag) it can be difficult to remember which strand to pull. Simply clipping a carabiner to your knotted strand will help you remember.

PACK A BACKPACK FOR CRAGGING: An organized pack is both more comfortable and balanced for the approach as well as less irritating when trying to locate that item you are looking for. This is how I prefer to pack my backpack for a day of cragging by packing items in the order I need them. . NOTE: I prefer bucket style packs (that you can throw things into while maintaining the ergonomic shape of the pack) between 40 and 50L. . BONUS TIP: If the rope doesn't fit, utilize a Nail Bight coiled rope (previous Tech Tip) and keep on the outside of the pack. Equalization is an element of anchor construction that has been touted as an all important objective. However, it is laced with scientific inaccuracies. I 3D-printed a custom robot to accomplish a task that is simple but would have been difficult and dangerous by other means, making this a great application for simple robotics. 3D printers make disposable robotics possible - print a robot for a specific task, assemble from basic building blocks (motors, radio controls, etc.), then break it down and throw it away after the task is complete!

From the classic film, 42nd Street. Music by Harry Warren, Al Dubin and Johnny Mercer Choreographed by the brilliant Busby Berkeley Starring Ginger Rogers, Ruby Keeler, Dick Powell, and Bebe Daniels, to name just a few Trivia: Ruby Keeler was married to famous singer Al Jolson, who was reportedly insanely jealous of Keeler's on-screen romance with Dick Powell. Dick Powell's third wife was the wonderful June Allyson who starred in Little Women, My Man Godfrey, and others. When Allyson was dating Powell, his father loaned her a scrapbook about his early career where Powell's "romantic triumphs," as she put it, were also featured. These apparently included Ginger Rogers, Rosemary Lane, Marion Davies, and of course Joan Blondell. Ruby Keeler was trained as an Irish Step dancer. If you watch her dancing sequences (particularly the early ones) you'll notice she wasn't wearing tap shoes. In the original Bradford Ropes' novel, the director, Julian and the lead actor, Billy, are lovers. Since same-sex relationships were unacceptable in films by the moral standards of the era, thus the film substituted a romance between Billy and Peggy. Plot: Two Broadway producers are putting on a show called Pretty Lady which stars Dorothy Brock (played by Bebe Daniels). The show's financial backer is Abner Dillon (played by Guy Kibbee). He is interested in Dorothy, and she is busy keeping him at arm's length while secretly seeing her old vaudeville partner, Pat Denning. Julian Marsh (played by Warner Baxter) is set to direct the show. Despite a long string of successes, he is broke as a result of the 1929 Stock Market Crash, so he must make his last show a hit in order to have enough money to retire. Enter Peggy Sawyer (played by Ruby Keeler), who arrives in New York and auditions for the show. Two experienced chorus girls, Lorraine Fleming and Ann "Anytime Annie" Lowell (played by Ginger Rogers) take her under their wing. The show's juvenile lead, Billy Lawler (played by Dick Powell), takes an immediate liking to Peggy. Rehearsals continue for five weeks, to the Marsh's complete dissatisfaction. Then, the night before the show's opening in Philadelphia, Dorothy breaks her ankle. She can't carry the show, but the inexperienced Peggy Sawyer can. With his future riding on the outcome, a desperate Marsh rehearses Peggy mercilessly, vowing "I'll either have a live leading lady or a dead chorus girl!" Billy finally gets up the nerve to tell Peggy he loves her; she enthusiastically kisses him. Then Dorothy shows up and wishes her luck. The show goes on, and the last twenty minutes of the film are devoted to three Busby Berkeley production numbers (Shuffle Off to Buffalo is one of them). The show is a hit, but the film ends on a bittersweet note: As the theater audience comes out, Julian Marsh, the director, is standing in the shadows, secretly listening to the feedback from the crowd. They all praise Peggy's performance, declaring her a star. They go on to say that he, Marsh, deserves no credit for the success of the show. Marsh smiles, bitterly, and the film ends.

Anchoring for Rock Climbing: Extending the Master Point Over an Edge with a 50 ft. Static Rope 🤍 About this video: Extending helps you put the master point of your anchor past the edge exactly where you want it and it also helps you properly equalize the anchor. Although "Rock Climb" will have more than 100 videos (7 hours+ of content), the program is designed to include maximum information in a concise way that is easy to understand and assimilate. For that reason most chapters are built on the knowledge acquired in previous ones (e.g., Rope Basics → Top-Roping → Lead Climbing → Sport Climbing → Trad. Climbing). Rock climbing is fun but there is an element of risk. In some situations if you are not careful, the chances of serious injury or death are very real. A safety oriented mindset is essential. The right attitude includes not thinking that just by watching videos and reading articles you will become a safe and experienced climber. Experience comes with practice. Practice means making occasional mistakes and learning from them. We believe qualified in-person training should be the main way of learning and progressing in rock climbing. A good mentor, guide or teacher will make learning as safe as it can be, by assessing your level and every situation. Our videos are meant to inform and entertain. Although our videos can be very helpful, they are not meant to replace in-person teaching by a qualified professional, nor they are meant to replace reading and understanding the instructions and manuals of rock climbing equipment—which we strongly advise you to do. (Manufacturers recommendations occasionally change, and it is a good idea to stay updated by visiting their websites.) Have fun and be safe out there!

If the climber is unable to unweight the rope, this LSD method will allow you to free the load strand from its locked position. Depending on the plaquette device being used, a redirect may also be considered. Due to this, one should practice this method with your particular device before using in real 5th class terrain.
