In this video "Dobyns BFS Rod - Sierra Series SUF 701c Review (BFS Fishing)", Hobie-Wan Kenobi tests the Dobyns Sierra Series 701c while BFS fishing for largemouth bass in clear water. Comparisons are made with the Dobyns Sierra Series SUF 700c (solid tip version) as well. This video is long but, has a lot of information about this rod and what features to look for with other BFS fishing rods. This rod feel like it has a little more power than the 700c. The biggest difference is that this Sierra Series 701c has a more natural feeling tip versus the solid tip of the 700c. The 700c would excel over the 701c for dropshotting and other "visual" bite techniques. There is a lot of overlap between the two rods but, my choice is the 701c. I been really liking skipping micro jigs and lightweight wacky rigs under docks with the 701c. The rod has enough power to steer fish away from cover yet, light enough power to enjoy the fight with smaller bass. The Dobyns Sierra Series SUF 701c is a great alternative to using spinning gear for bass fishing. BFS (Bait Finesse System) is new to the USA for mainstream anglers. I have been using BFS gear for over 10 years and I am glad to see more rod options for the USA market. One of the best uses for BFS gear is using fluorocarbon from 6-10lb. Most times, spinning gears gets a lot of line twists with fluorocarbon line and can cause many issues. The act of pitching to cover with a spinning reel is also cumbersome for most, as a baitcasting reel is more natural and allows for instant hooksets and better lure control. As you know, I picked up the Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse Rod earlier this year for BFS fishing. Well I finally got around to catching some fish on it... Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse BFS Rod (Unboxing & First Impressions): 🤍 This rod seems to be perfect for what I bought it for: small plastics such as Ned Rigs. I think it will be a blast to chase bass in the 10-16" class on because they will put up a really nice fight! Additionally, this will still work for larger panfish which is a nice plus. I could see it being a fine crappie rod. That said, it feels like it has enough backbone to handle big fish too. Stay tuned as the waters warm up. I picked up the Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse BFS Rod and wanted to show you my initial impressions. Make sure to subscribe and stay tuned for spring when I bend it on some bass! As many of you know, I have become a big fan of Bait Finesse System (BFS) this year. Any time I can use light line and gear, you know I will be a fan. I guess that is why I fell in love with it! This rod will fit into my arsenal quite well. I sold my old Shimano Sensilite with my Fishband GH100 to Dave, a member of Team Dink, so he can start fishing BFS as well. I believe it is going to be able to do exactly what I want it to do: cast Ned Rigs and other small bass baits in the 1/16-3/16oz range. This is my intial impressions and in-depth review of the Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse Casting rod. I go over specs, my intended uses, and I also show the taper at difference forces to show how the rod bends thought the taper of the rod. Future videos will show casting a variety of lures and showing the taper with crank baits. The final video will be getting into some bass, walleye and panfish to test the rods versatility. Today I showcase and review the Dobyns Sierra BFS SUF 700C rod and Shimano SLX BFS reel. I want to note off the rip, that when referring to the reels “braking system” I was referring to the external knob for braking settings. Higher end shimano reels definitely have much more refined and tuned braking systems. That being said, I feel that this reel is EXCEPTIONAL when it comes to value and practicality. For “BFS Bass Fishing”, I view the lures to be in the spectrum where conventional bass gear is just too heavy. This setup is perfect because it has just enough backbone to get a big bass in the boat. This is not your setup if you are looking for a truly ultralight system throwing lures under 3 grams, I suggest a more specialized reel that may possibly need some customization on your end. But for the typical American bass angler used to baitcasters, this setup is perfect to open the door to BFS fishing. Thanks for watching!

I picked up the Dobyns Sierra Trout & Panfish Ultralight setup about 6 months ago and have been fishing with it a lot! Because I have been doing so many ultralight rod review videos lately, I felt it would also be beneficial to review rods I had more experience with. The Dobyns Sierra is an incredible rod to fish with and it is probably my favorite ultralight. It definitely costs more but you get a higher quality blank, components, and overall performance. The sensitivity is incredible so I can always pick up on light bites (even in heavy current like this video). PART 2: Dobyns Sierra BFS Rod On The Water Review and Test. I cast a variety of lures with the Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse 700c. I test the rods reaction to crankbaits, structure sensitivity and other small but important features when selecting a rod. This rod seems so far to be a great rod for pond hopping or any type of shore fishing. It is pretty versatile and should eliminate the need to carry multiple rods around when shore fishing. Not saying this rod couldn't be used on a boat pitching weightless plastics to docks but, shore fishing is what stands out to me so far. A good reel to pair with this rod is the Shimano Curado BFS. At $189, it is a great price for a BFS reel from a reputable reel manufacturer and...is available to purchase in the USA. Companies like Roro Lure also make shallow spools for many existing "normal" baitcasting reels so, that may be an easy option to get into BFS. Many reels like the Daiwa SV reels are pretty capable of casting most bass plastics weightless without modification. This is the first mainstream rod to be specifically made for BFS fishing. I hope that this rod create competition among other rod makers to start to bring quality USA market BFS rods to the market. Hopped on the stand up paddle board with my BFS rod and did a little bass fishing. I started out with an ultralight umbrella rig, which was super cool, but the fish were a little sluggish so I switched it up and tied on a Keitech Mono Spin Jig with the Burro Bug as a trailer. After a couple times fishing this little rig, it is already becoming a personal confidence bait. You can fish it like a Ned Rig, Swim Jig, or simply flip and pitch it like a standard jig. The Dobyns Sierra Trout & Panfish & the Daiwa Kage are both fantastic ultralight rods. Coming in at about the same price and featuring many of the same specs, I felt it could be a good video to compare the two rods to showcase the slight differences. Overall, both rods are fantastic so I don't think you can go wrong either way. Personally, I think I prefer the Dobyns slightly, mostly due to the grip and the fact that the blank feels slightly more soft down the backbone. After a great morning of Crappie fishing, I switched things up and started fishing exclusively with my BFS setup.
